Week of Sept 12-17 at Arts Fifth Avenue

SEMESTER ENDS:

OBSERVATION WEEKS
Tentative observation weeks for the fall semester are:
October 10-15
November 14-19
December 12-17

(Note: If we are able to instead schedule a mini "recital" during the final week of class, we will not do observations during regular class time.)

It is at the discretion of each individual instructor to add in additional informal showings at the end of a particular class day/time as students are working on choreography projects, etc.  Even during an official "observation" week, an instructor may announce the week before that observation time will only be for a portion of the class.

Class Locations Class Schedule

FALL 2011 CLASSES WILL BE OFFERED AT 3 LOCATIONS

Location 1: Texas Ballet Theater
1600 Green Oaks Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76116

Easy access off of I-30 with plenty of free parking. Right next to Ridgmar Mall and major shopping areas if you need to run errands while kids are in class.
Close to the new Target off Green Oaks and 183. Just another couple blocks to Sam’s and Walmart etc. Nearly all the shopping and errand-running possibilities you might need are within about a mile radius around that mall area, so a great location for multi-tasking while kids are in class.

Location 2: The Body Garage
2112 Mistletoe Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76110

Easy access off I-30 /Rosedale (near Forest Park exit). East of the traffic light at Forest Park, and a block east of cross street at Jerome near the railroad tracks. Free parking next to building, and right next door to Newby Park, a small neighborhood park just to the north – you could take other kids to the park to play while waiting for class to get out, or take a nice walk through the beautiful Mistletoe Heights neighborhood to the west of the studio. WiFi access is a short drive away to the Starbucks at 8th and Rosedale.

Note: There are three different "Mistletoe" streets which cross Forest Park in the Mistletoe Heights neighborhood. This is Mistletoe BOULEVARD and is the only Mistletoe with a traffic light.

Location 3: Arts Fifth Avenue (A5A)
1628 5th Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76104

This multi-use arts center at the corner of 5th and Allen is a very short 4-5 minute drive to the east from The Body Garage, and sits in the heart of the Fairmount Neighborhood. This is not far from a variety of restaurants and hangouts on Magnolia and Park Place Ave., and a very short drive from the previously mentioned Starbucks with WiFi access at 8th and Rosedale.

PARKING: Street parking is free but can be limited some nights. You may very well need to park across the street or in a different block. Pay attention to signs and be aware that some areas are no parking zones. The nursery across the street allows A5A students to park in their lot after 5 pm.

SATURDAYS at TEXAS BALLET THEATER (Starting Sept 10)

8:30-10:30am – CD/FW Dance Workshop Company – ages 9+ up with at least 3 years of previous dance training – w/Kerry Kreiman and periodic guests
(Students with less than 3 years of formal dance training will be considered through an audition process and must inquire directly)
Technique, improvisation, and choreography will be explored within this special two-hour workshop class intended to foster a variety of skills from appropriate technical execution of basic and complex movement vocabulary to strength-building, creative-problem solving and choreographic studies. The first 30-50 minutes will include a warm-up and technique/skill-building time. One 10-minute water/snack/restroom break will be allowed near the half-way point, but students may also be asked to review personal movement phrases/choreography during the break to keep us on task and using time efficiently. Class time will include improvisational exercises, dance making, choreographic assignments, running/cleaning dances already made, etc.
Students will prepare short dances and also create structured improvisations to be performed in public. Students enrolled in this class will be expected to participate in periodic performances out and about in the community. Our goal will be to do at least 2 free public "outreach" performances a semester at an easily accessible location such as a festival, park, or museum. And if parent volunteers are able to help set up and coordinate some of these opportunities, the full realm of possibilities are only yet to be discovered.
Emphasis will be on modern and contemporary dance and creative movement, but the overall philosophy will be "DANCE" as a form of human expression and communication through movement. Elements of ballet, jazz, African, and more will be woven into the classes over the year.

Required clothing for OUTREACH PERFORMANCES will be:

1 – black jazz/dance sneakers (for performing on cement and other hard surfaces)
2 – black jazz/dance pants (or sleek-cut sweat pants with a clean line – wide leg pants can actually be dangerous, as foot or shoe can easily get caught in pant leg causing the dancer to trip or fall)
3 – solid color bright T-shirt (cap sleeve, short sleeve, or long sleeve depending on weather – sleeveless cut at shoulder line is acceptable, but no tank tops – shirts should be fairly form fitting to show lines of the body – overly baggy shirts are distracting).
Please do NOT purchase anything for the performance requirements until we know the class has "made."  The dress code for CLASSES can be downloaded as a separate document along with other policies and procedures.
Special note regarding footwear: It is requested and suggested that students in the workshop company class BRING A PAIR OF COTTON SOCKS with them to each class meeting. Having socks available to help keep feet warm during periods of discussion/watching/brainstorming, and easily accessible if doing lots of turns or sliding movements on a particular day, are matters of practicality. Having a couple of pairs of socks in your dance bag ready to go is always a good idea.

REQUIRED JOURNAL/NOTEBOOK: Students participating in the workshop company will keep a journal/notebook over the course of the semester/year which they bring with them to EACH class along with a pen or pencil. Workshop Company members will be expected to make their own notes in regard to choreography sequences and their parts in different dances and structured improvisations. In addition, they will be asked to do brainstorming/drawing activities in relation to improvisation and choreography exercises during class.

OTHER CLASSES/AGES/LEVELS:
If none of the above classes work for you, OR you have special requests about how additional classes might get added into the schedule, please let us know your interests, as we are still examining possibilities for offering additional classes.

LATE FEES:
Beginning September 2011, if your "monthly" tuition payment is not made by the 15th of the month, you will owe an additional $10 for the month.
Any payment postmarked by the 15th of the month will still count as paid on time for a "monthly" payment. If you are more than a month late with your payment, your late fee for the month owed increases to $20.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
Students already studying on scholarship are eligible for renewal. If you are in need of a scholarship (full OR partial), for your child to continue to study with us, do not hesitate to ask and explain your circumstances. We’d rather see the kids dancing than not!  Please send an e-mail request in regard to what you think you can afford to pay, and which classes you are wanting to enroll in.

Adult "Dancing Fool" Classes (ages 18 and up)
Adult class tuition is billed differently than child/youth classes, since experience has shown that adult students are often unable to commit to a full semester at a time. Instead, we require adults to commit to one full MONTH at a time. Each class needs to "make" each month to continue.

Adult classes will not meet during months in which minimum enrollment has not been met. Please confirm your participation by payment at least ONE WEEK AHEAD of the date of the class starting for the new month so that we can tell everyone whether or not the class has "made." Your commitment to the class is what enables us to offer it, whether or not you are able to attend class on a particular night. There are NO drop-ins for the general adult classes.

1 hr class – monthly rate calculated at $12 a class for number of classes in that particular month

1 hr 15 minute – monthly rate calculated at $15 a class for number of classes in that particular month

For example: For September at A5A, the Tuesday night 1.5 hr modern dance class will meet only 3 times on Sept 13, 20, 27 – 3 weeks @ $15 (1.5 hr rate) = $45, plus semester registration fee of $12, would make the first payment $57.

Where for September at The Body Garage, the Thursday night 1 hour hip hop & jazz class would meet 4 times on Sept 8, 15, 22, 29 – 4 weeks @ $12 (1 hr rate) = $48, plus semester registration fee of $12 would make the first payment $60.

Anyone enrolling in BOTH of the adult classes for fun & fitness in the same month can get a 25% discount off the Hip Hop & Jazz class (taking it down to $9 a class = $36 for 4 Thursdays).

The CD/FW School values:
  • The art form of dance, as a performing art, with an emphasis on modern dance and creative movement, and the infinite possibilities for human movement...
  • The creative process and self expression, with opportunities for students to explore and discover the world of dance and communication through movement from the inside out
  • Proper alignment, form, and function in training, to reinforce healthy neuromuscular patterns and practices within all styles and techniques
  • Collaboration, cooperation, and active participation -- students help to choreograph their own recital dances, and take "ownership" of the process every step of the way
  • Reasonable pricing and rock bottom recital costs... As part of our commitment to the community as a non-profit organization, tuition and fee pricing is kept as low as possible, and recital costs are kept to a bare minimum to make our classes more accessible to the community... (the majority of recital costumes are purchased at discount stores like Target, not only saving you money, but providing students with a costume which can be re-used in daily life rather than sitting in a closet...)
